Snow sports in Tahoe

Tahoe Area is home to the following ski resorts

Alpine Meadow

Diamond Peak

Super view of Lake Tahoe from Crystal Express Lift.  Blue runs down from Cyrstal Express are good for beginners, especially snowboarders.

Kirkwood

Quoted from slidingonthecheap.com:  "Chair 4, Sunrise is famous for finding powder stashes, (backside) over a busy holiday."

Heavenly

Quoted from slidingonthecheap.com:  "The new Olympic Express. From the top, you can ride Olympic all the way to Stagecoach, it's like 8,600 feet long!"

Homewood

Super view of Lake Tahoe from this small but friendly resort.  Have good tree runs.

Mt. Rose

Cheap beginner package at $49.  Closet to Reno.

Northstar

Quoted from slidingonthecheap.com: "Lookout Mountain. The groomed runs hold about the same challenge as the backside, but you'll find a fraction of the crowd. Best known for tree skiing under the chair when weather permits."

Squaw Valley

Quoted from slidingonthecheap.com:

"Solitude

Broken Arrow
High Camp Chair

To avoid lines on popular lifts but access the same terrain, take:  Squaw One instead of the Funitel or Cable Car
High Camp Chair instead of East Broadway Newport instead of Siberia Mainline instead of Gold Coast
Cornice II (if running) instead of Headwall Olympic Lady (if running) instead of KT22

To drive right up and park your car next to a lift and avoid base area traffic and lines, park next to the Far East lift and purchase your lift ticket at the Far East ticket windows."

Sugar Bowl

Quoted from slidingonthecheap.com:  Overland off of Disney for Intermediate,  off of Mt. Judah, try Pacific Crest Trail!

Jerome Hill lift is good for beginner, especially the TrailBlazer run(even though it's marked as blue run)
